Professional = Serious = Boring. Right? Wrong! You can be taken seriously at work without succumbing to the uninteresting world of black pants and boxy cardigans. Don’t get me wrong, black pants and cardigans have their place. This is not it. We’re into color here. Lots of it!
I saw this skirt (affiliate) at Target and I thought, that thing is WEIRD and I LOVE IT. Yellow is not normally a color I gravitate toward but the pattern and the cut felt so funky and Mad Men-esque, I thought it would be a perfect shot of color to add to my (mostly black) closet.
This is an outfit I have actually worn to the office so it’s been real-world tested. To be honest, I did switch to flats halfway through the day. I changed into these – so cute with the tassels! (affiliate link) I don’t know about you guys, but I’m not a “heels all day” kinda girl. I always keep a pair of flats or sandals in my work bag for when I can’t last another minute in my heels.
Tips for Rocking the Rainbow at Work:
- Stick to Solids – when you’re working with bold colors, it pays to keep it simple.
- Ponder Proportions – Since this skirt is longer, wide AND bright, I went with a simple shirt and shoes.
- Add Accessories – One of my favorite pieces of jewelry is my Stella & Dot La Coco necklace. Sadly, they don’t make it anymore. Good for you though! I found a similar one at Off 5th. (affiliate) Paired with a hot pink purse, you’ve got a recipe that’s as refreshing as strawberry lemonade on a summer day (with a splash of vodka, if we’re being honest.)
