Happy New Year Boss Ladies! We’re almost a month in to the year and it’s time to discuss 2018 trends. Now, as a general rule, I discourage being trendy at the office. See through boots, anyone? However, there actually is a way to incorporate trends into your wardrobe without looking like a total nutjob. Both Huffington Post and Who What Wear had great lists of what we’re going to see a lot of in 2018. I’ve taken both lists and distilled them down to what works at work.
2018 Trend: Trench Coats
I am so happy to see trench coats on this list. I feel like they don’t get enough play in the work world unless you’re Carmen Sandiego. When I hate everything in my closet and I want to burn it to the ground, I just put a trench coat on over whatever I’m wearing and I instantly feel chic and sophisticated. I love this lightweight trench from Target, it’s comfortable and not too fussy. I am especially a fan of the shoulder details and simple tie closure.
2018 Trend: Mixed Prints
Mixing patterns as a fashion trend has been around for a while but hasn’t really made it into the spotlight until now. To make this work at work, keep it simple. Think stripes and florals. It usually works best if you have one small print and one large print. If you want to try but don’t feel comfortable going off the deep end yet, try keeping it to one color (i.e. black and white).
2018 Trend: Power Suit
This one was a no-brainer. The 80’s/90’s power suit is making a BIG comeback. Think shoulder pads and bold colors. If you’re not ready to go full-on Working Girl, tone a boxy blazer down a little with a slim-fit pant or a dress and a pointy-toed pump. I really like J.Crew’s French Girl Suiting in Crepe.
2018 Trend: Ultraviolet
Ultraviolet is a 2018 Trend because it’s Pantone’s Color of the Year! I am not a huge purple fan, so for me, I would keep this to accessories. Scroll through below for my Ultraviolet picks!
How many of these 2018 Trends will you take part in?
